Soccer's Ferguson selected as Great South Player of the Week

Decatur, GA-The Great South Athletic Conference is pleased to announce this week's Weekly Honor Roll recipients for the week ending Sept 18. Ian Meredith of Covenant wins for men's soccer and Sawyer Ferguson of Salem in women's soccer rounding out this week's list. Kara Strickland of Maryville takes home the volleyball crown, while fellow Scots Boston Maxwell and Stephanie Knepfel for men's and women's cross country earned the weekly honor, respectively.

Helping the Salem Spirits to a 3-0 week, Ferguson (Billings, MT) grabbed this week's women's soccer honor. She scored two goals in the first fifteen minutes against Hollins University, and added an assist in a win at Warren Wilson and helped the team improve their record to 5-1 for the season.

Salem ended up defeating Hollins 6-1 and Warren Wilson 4-0. Ferguson also was very influential in a conference victory against Huntingdon on Saturday, leading the Spirits with five shots. Ferguson leads Salem with four goals on the season. Ferguson broke two bones in her leg at Warren Wilson and had season ending surgery in Asheville. The Spirits will be glad to have her back on the field for the spring season.
