Kansas City, KS-MacKenzie Schmidt (Columbus, OH) became the 1st student-athlete in Salem College history to earn NCAA Scholar All-South Region Honors for her play on the soccer field this past fall and for her work in the classroom.  She was placed on the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Scholar All-Region Honorable Mention Team. Schmidt holds a 3.894 cumulative grade point average and she led the Great South Athletic Conference with 11 total assists and 0.55 assists per game. She is a junior and majors in Not-For-Profit at Salem.

"This is very exciting news for both Mac and our soccer program after she had another stellar season.  It is the 1st time a student-athlete at Salem has been awarded this honor and it is especially great since it represents both her play on the field and her work in the classroom. She competed against not only DIII soccer players, but also players from Division II and the NAIA from Texas all the way to New Jersey to win a place on this team," said Head Soccer Coach Jay Callahan.

Schmidt was a captain on the soccer team and helped lead the team to a 16-3-1 overall record, and a Great South Regular Season Championship. She was selected to the GSAC All-Conference Team and the GSAC All-Academic Team for the 2nd straight year. This is another academic honor for the soccer program at Salem after they won the NSCAA Team Academic Honor earlier this month.
