Kansas City, KS-The Salem College soccer team was one of only 88 teams in both men's and women's soccer for all NCAA divisions to earn the Team Ethics Award presented by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.  Salem earned the silver level medal for only accumulating 3 yellow cards and 0 red cards during the 2012 season, which they finished 16-3-1.

"Along with our strong play on the field and excellence in the classroom; we pride ourselves in being a clean team on the field each year," said Head Coach Jay Callahan. "To be one of only 88 teams in the entire country to receive this honor when there are of well over 1,000 teams is a testament to how we play the game the right way."

The Gold, Silver or Bronze version of the Team Ethics Award, which recognizes teams that exhibit fair play, sporting behavior and adherence to the laws of the game, as reflected by the number of yellow caution cards or red ejection cards they are shown by referees throughout the season.

A total of 55 teams claimed the Silver Award, which is given to teams that accumulate no red cards and a maximum of five yellow cards, while the Bronze Award went to 20 teams, which is presented to teams that receive no reds and a maximum of 10 yellows.
