Soccer's Ferguson, Ketchum and others ranked nationally

Winston-Salem, NC-In the final NCAA Division III statistical soccer rankings, the Salem College soccer team made the list in several areas. The Spirits, who finished the 2012 campaign with a 16-3-1 record and a Great South Regular Season Championship, had 6 different players in the rankings. Sawyer Ferguson (Billings, MT) finished the season with an impressive 10 game-winning goals, which was 2nd in the entire nation of over 8,000 soccer-athletes.

"Sawyer's game-winning goals number was huge for us," said Coach Jay Callahan. "Only one player from both teams can score one of these goals, and Sawyer did it 10 times. She had more game-winning goals than anybody else in the Great South had total goals."

Ferguson was 27th in the country in goals with 19, 24th in points with 45, and 127th in assists with 7. She was also 36th with points per game at 2.25, and 36th in goals per game with 0.95.

Paige Ketchum (Jacksonville, NC), who came on strong in goal the last half of the season, was 8th in the country in goals-against-average at 0.355. She was also 38th in save percentage at 0.862.

MacKenzie Schmidt (Columbus, OH) was 23rd in total assists with 11, and 34th in assists per game at 0.55. Taylor Norman (Springfield, VA) was 93rd with 8 assists and 134th with 0.4 assists per game. Bethany Kent (Manassas, VA) was 127th in assists with 7, and Tarryn Bundy (West Deptford, NJ) was 77th with 4 game-winning goals.

The Spirits as a team out of over 400 DIII teams were also ranked in most categories. They are currently 26th in win-loss-tie percentage with a 0.825 percentage. They finished 42nd in scoring offense at 2.9 and 68th in goals-against-average at 0.754.
