GSAC Announces Women's Soccer All-Conference Award Winners and Salem Dominates

Winston-SALEM, N.C. - The GSAC held it's fall sports awards banquet on the campus of Salem College this evening to celebrate the 2013 Women's Soccer All-Conference award winners. Salem's Stephanie Hubbard took home the top prize of Player of the Year, Wesleyan's Leah McLeod won Newcomer of the Year and the Spirits' head coach Jay Callahan was named Coach of the Year.

Stephanie Hubbard, a senior center back from Sanford, N.C., led the Spirit's to their second straight regular season conference title. Despite playing half of Salem's games as a center back and half as a holding mid, Hubbard still finished with 6 goals (7th in GSAC) and 7 assists (4th in GSAC) for 19 points (6th in GSAC). She is a two-time NSCAA All-South Region Honorable Mention member, and a three-time GSAC All-Conference and All-Academic member.

Leah McLeod, a freshman midfielder from Gosford, Australia, netted 12 goals in 2013, second most in the league as only a freshman. She also tallied 27 points on the season, third-most in the GSAC in what could only be described as a breakout first-year campaign. She was named GSAC Player of the Week on two occasions this season, the first ever player of the week recipient for Wesleyan soccer. Her 12 goals are a single season record for Wesleyan as she led her team to its most wins in over a decade.

Jay Callahan piloted the Spirits to their second consecutive regular season title and a 13-3-2 overall record in 2013. In his seventh year as the head coach of Salem, Callahan has led the Salem soccer program to 4 straight seasons with at least 10 wins, and 5 of the last 6 seasons and an overall record of 90-44-8. He was selected as the 2012 Great South Coach of the Year and the 2008 NCAA Association of Division III Independents (AD3I) Coach of the Year.
