Soccer earns National Team Ethics Award again

January 07, 2014

Kansas City, KS-The Salem College soccer team won the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Team Ethics Silver Award for the second year in a row. The Spirits were only handed out two yellow cards this season. Earlier in the year, the team was honored with the NSCAA Team Academic Award for having over a 3.25 cumulative team grade point average.

The honor recognizes teams that exhibit fair play, sporting behavior and adherence to the laws of the game, as reflected by the number of yellow caution cards or red ejection cards they are shown by referees throughout the season.
In all, 254 college teams received either the gold, silver or bronze version of the College Team Ethics and Sportsmanship Award. A total of 78 high school teams competing during the fall received either the gold, silver or bronze version of the inaugural High School Team Ethics and Sportsmanship Award.

A level explanation is as follows:

Gold: No cards accumulated during the season

Silver: No red cards and no more than five yellow cards accumulated during the season

Bronze: No more than 10 cards accumulated during the season
