Winston-Salem, NC – For the past 22 years, the Chef and Child Organization of the American Culinary Federation (ACF) has reached out across America during the month of October to partner with community agencies, bringing awareness to childhood hunger and emphasizing good nutrition. Members of the Salem College soccer team spent the morning of October 16th at the Sarah Y. Austin site speaking to local children about why it is important to eat healthy meals.

Marcy Sheets, the program director, said: "The Salem soccer athletes added a new component for our little ones who were eating a good nutritious breakfast and having fun at the same time. We all agreed when the event was over that it was one of the best, if not the best breakfast we've had, in large part because of the Salem Soccer Team."

For the 5th year, Family Services, Inc. Child Development (FSCD) was named the recipient of a special free breakfast event, served by Chefs from the local ACF Chef and Child organization.

On Wednesday, October 16th, Chef Don McMillan, numerous local Chefs, culinary students, and Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest NC collaborated to serve a healthy, delicious breakfast to hundreds of preschool children, their families, teachers, community partners, and staff at Family Services, Inc.

A brief program was held that morning at 8:15 AM at the Sarah Y. Austin (SYA) site. Student athletes dressed in their uniforms from local colleges and universities, including Salem College and Wake Forest, talked to preschoolers at all Centers about healthy eating.
