Soccer wins first conference match 7-0 against Wesleyan

Winston-Salem, NC-The Salem College soccer team scored 5 goals in the first 16:36 of the game to cruise to a 7-0 victory. Tarryn Bundy (West Deptford, NJ) tallied 5 goals in only 21 minutes of action, which was a school record for goals in a game. MacKenzie Schmidt (Columbus, OH) finished with 3 assists for Salem. The Spirits improve to 5-2-2 overall and 1-0 in the GSAC, while Wesleyan falls to 6-2 and 0-1.

Bundy scored in the 8th minute off an assist by Schmidt to start the scoring. She scored the next two, both in the 14th minute, on an assist by Stephanie Hubbard (Sanford, NC) and a penalty kick. Taylor Norman (Springfield, VA) scored in the 16th minute on a pass by Schmidt. Schmidt assisted Bundy again in the 17th minute. Deanna Andrews (Climax, NC) scored her first collegiate goal in the 33rd minute on another penalty kick. Bundy scored an unassisted goal in the 51st minute to finish the scoring.

Paige Ketchum (Jacksonville, NC) and Kenzie Rathe (Cloquet, MN) split the shut-out in goal for Salem. The Spirits out-shot Wesleyan 34-1 and had a 6-0 corner kick advantage.

The Spirits return to action tomorrow when they host Berry in non-conference action.
