SALEM LOOKING FOR POINTS IN LEAGUE TOURNAMENT PUSH
Salem soccer sits one point from eighth place in the USA South Conference standings heading into Wednesday's clash with N.C. Wesleyan. The Battling Bishops currently occupy eighth place, accruing three points with a 1-6 mark in league play, giving them the one-point edge in the league standings over Salem.

LAST TIME OUT FOR THE SPIRITS
For the third time this season, sophomore Darilyn Nieto had a multi-goal performance, helping the Salem soccer team earn a 2-2 draw with Pfeiffer when the two teams clashed at Lefko Field in Misenheimer, N.C., in USA South Conference action on Saturday.

Nieto, who led all Salem players with five shots and five shots on goal, quickly put the Spirits in the lead in the 14th-minute of action. Pfeiffer answered with a goal of its own, by virtue of a shot from Chloe Johnson, who converted a pass by Victoria Tita, as the first half closed in a 1-1 deadlock.

Nieto notched her 12th goal of the campaign, second of the contest, in the 47th-minute, which provided Salem with a 2-1 advantage. However, Pfeiffer again answered with a strike, evening the match with an unassisted goal by Jadelyn Taylor in the 81st-minute.

Marissa Doutrich anchored the Salem defense in net with eight saves, while Olivia Garner countered with four saves.

Salem attempted eight shots (six shots on goal), getting five each from Nieto, while Layla Locklear, Jasmin Solorzano and Giselle Ramos had one each. Tita and Kelsy Esuivel had a team-best six shots each for Pfeiffer.

NIETO NOTCHES MULTIPLE GOALS
Salem sophomore Darilyn Nieto notched the seventh multi-goal match of her career with a two-goal performance in the tie with Pfeiffer.

Nieto, who has three in the 2023 campaign, recorded four multi-goal outings during her first year with the Spirits. With two matches remaining in the regular season, Nieto has the opportunity to equal that mark as a sophomore.

Those two goals by Nieto also moved the Greensboro, N.C., native into a three-way tie with Tarryn Johnson and Taylor Norman for sixth-most career goals (26) in Salem soccer history. Nieto passed Ellie Montes, who was eighth on the all-time list with 25 goals, with her two-goal outing against Pfeiffer.

DOUBLE-DIGIT DOUTRICH
After converting 22 saves in a setback to William Peace on October 14th, Salem first-year netminder Marissa Doutrich not only equaled her own program single-match record, but she also tied Hannah Wagner for the most single-season double-digit save outings in program history with four.

Doutrich posted four double-digit save outings during an 18-day stretch from September 27th through October 14th, beginning with a program record 22-save outing against Southern Virginia.

The York, Pennsylvania, native emerged with 18 saves in a setback to Brevard (Oct. 3) and 16 stops in a 1-1 tie versus Meredith four days later. She bookended her previous 22-save outing against the Knights by converting 22 in a clash with William Peace on October 14th.

That performance against the Pacers tied Wagner's 2018 mark for most single-season double-digit save outings in program history. Coincidentally, it broke a tie with Jazmine Bridgeman, who had three double-digit save outings during the course of the 2009 campaign.

PREPARING FOR SENIOR DAY FESTIVITIES
While Salem is preparing for its final road match of the regular season, the Spirits are also closing out the home portion of the 2023 season on Saturday, October 28th.

The home finale will also serve as Senior Day for Salem seniors Layla Locklear and Isabel Scott.

The final home match of 2023 will pit Salem against USA South Conference rival Greensboro at 2 p.m.
