Shores, Spirits Close Season Strong at Pfeiffer Dual

MEISENHEIMER, N.C. – Junior Corrin Shores capped off a dual meet at Pfeiffer with a trio of Top-3 finishes, including the first individual crown in her collegiate career, as the Salem swim team closed out the final meet of the 2019-20 swim season in Meisenheimer, N.C., on Saturday, Feb. 1.

Shores, who had placed among the Top-3 on seven occasions heading into the weekend, touched the wall in a time of 29.59 in the 50 freestyle as she claimed the first individual crown of her collegiate career. Shores was also instrumental in helping the Spirits earn first place in the 200 freestyle relay as she teamed with Allison Wakefield, Olivia Kleven and Rachel Black to claim first in a time of 2:06.61. In her second race of the afternoon, the 50 butterfly, Shores closed the race third (36.80) en route to her ninth Top-3 finish of the slate.

Allison Wakefield also came through with a first-place performance for the Spirits, capping off the 500 freestyle with a personal-best time of 7:17.68. The victory marked the second in the event for Wakefield this season, who also claimed the top prize in a dual with Greensboro and Guilford on Jan. 18. She took part in the 100 backstroke race at Pfeiffer and closed in fifth (1:51.86).

Along with her first-place finish in the team's 200 freestyle relay, Kleven had a pair of Top-3 finishes in the 200 individual medley (2:38.42) and the 100 breaststroke (1:17.51), where she was second and third, respectively. The junior standout closes out the season with 16 Top-3 finishes, including a program-best eight first place performances.

First-year Emily Inman enjoyed her best finish of the slate, second, in the 500 freestyle as she posted a personal-best time of 7:57.53. Inman, who finished behind Wakefield, trimmed just over 13 seconds off her previous career-best time, which came at the William Peace Invite on Oct. 19. She was also third in the 200 freestyle, capping off the race in 2:56.01, and fifth in the 100 breaststroke with a mark of 1:36.83.

Black rounded out Top-3 finishers for the Spirits with a third-place performance in the 50 freestyle. In tying her best finish of the season, Black posted a time of 35.41 in the event. She was also responsible for a fourth-place outing in the 200 freestyle, touching the wall in a time of 3:48.81.

Kristen Kellogg closed out her Salem career by competing in both the 200 freestyle and 100 backstroke events. Kellogg tied her best finish (fourth) in the 200 freestyle by finishing the race in 3:48.81, while posting a fifth-place outing in the 100 backstroke with a mark of 2:02.53.
