WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Abrielle Eckenroth was responsible for two points in the match, teaming with Alana Bridges to post the lone doubles victory of the afternoon, but it was Mary Baldwin that earned the team victory (7-2) when the two USA South programs clashed in tennis on Tuesday, April 4th at the Bert Lain Tennis Center.

Hannah Eastridge and Virani Bhagat provided the Fighting Squirrels with an 8-1 victory in No. 2 doubles, defeating Alyson Gammons and Ashley Linden. Eckenroth and Bridges evened the score at one-all for Salem, posting an 8-3 win in No. 3 doubles, before the tandem of Katlyn Massie and Gretchen Lutz put the Fighting Squirrels back in the lead with an 8-6 triumph over Cadence Durham and Emily Griffis.

Lutz moved that margin to 3-1 in favor of Mary Baldwin with a 7-5, 6-0 victory against Griffis in No. 2 singles. Eckenroth answered with her second point of the match, her second singles victory of the slate, with a 7-5, 6-0 victory against Savannah Trujillo in a clash of No. 6 players.

Separated by just one point, Mary Baldwin rattled off four straight singles victories, beginning with a victory from Massie, who downed Durham by scores of 5-7, 6-1 and 10-6 in No. 1 singles. Bhagat followed with a three-set victory (6-2, 2-6, 12-10) versus Gammons in a battle of No. 4 singles.

The sixth point for the Fighting Squirrels came from Bantel, who took down Linden in a 6-3, 7-6 battle of No. 5 singles. The final point for Mary Baldwin was delivered in No. 3 singles, by virtue of a 6-4, 7-6 victory by Eastridge against Bridges.
