RALEIGH, N.C. – The Salem tennis team remains in search of its first victory in April after suffering a 7-2 setback to Meredith, when the two USA South Conference programs clashed in Raleigh, N.C., on Tuesday, April 11th.

Claire Southern and Hannah Jo Jablonski put the Avenging Angels in the lead early by posting an 8-0 victory against No. 2 doubles seeds Ashley Linden and Cadence Durham. Meredith moved that advantage to 2-0 Ellie Osborne and Sophie Phillips in No. 1 doubles with an 8-2 victory over Alana Bridges and Emily Griffis.

The first Salem point came by virtue of Alyson Gammons and Abrielle Eckenroth triumph over Lexie House and Anna Bittler by an 8-2 margin in No. 3 doubles.

Meredith rattle off five consecutive singles points, grabbing a 7-1 lead, after Javi Brito posted a 6-2, 6-1 win over Jasmine Scott in the clash of No. 6 seeds. Southern extended the Meredith lead to 4-1 in No. 3 singles by taking down Bridges by scores of 6-2, 6-2. The decisive team point came by virtue of a Phillips, who took down Griffis by margins of 6-0, 6-2 in No. 2 singles.

The sixth team point came from Osborne, in No. 1 singles, after she claimed a 7-5, 6-3 win over Durham. The final Avenging Angel point came in No. 4 singles, as Jablonski earned a 5-7, 6-2, 10-8 three-set decision over Gammons.

Linden picked up her third singles win by battling past Bittler in three sets by scores of 6-4, 3-6, 10-6.
