Peace Squeaks By the Spirits

October 9, 2007

Winston-Salem, NC- The Salem College Volleyball Team hosted Peace College Tuesday evening at Spirit Coliseum. Salem opened up the match with two exciting wins of 30-24 and 30-20. Peace College won a close game three by the score of 30-27 and then defeated the Spirits with 30-19 and 15-11 scores to win the match 3-2.

Christine Tillman (FY, King, NC) led the Spirits with 18 kills, 5 aces and 30 digs. Whitney Sorenson (Jr., Glendale, AZ) had 19 kills and 12 digs. Katie Lineberger (Jr., Maiden, NC) had 19 kills, 1 block and 13 digs. Tani Hatch (FY, Salt Lake City, UT) had 5 kills and 22 digs. Alyssa Alcos (Jacksonville, FL) had 11 digs.

"The first two games Salem looked excellent, we were passing the ball well and running and offense” said Head Volleyball Coach Ziemba. “But the last three games, we stopped doing what got us there.  If we pass well and run an offense there has not been many teams that we have seen this year that can stop us.  Last night came down to mental toughness and having a killer instinct.  At this point, that is something this young team is deficient in.  But the season is not over and we will continue to work on areas that need improvement."

"Katie and Whitney played extremely well in the first two games.  Katie was playing with enthusiasm that I have not seen from her this season. Christine did an excellent job at the net and Tani continued to play her consistently solid defense.  We look forward to
playing Piedmont on Thursday."

The Spirits return to action on Thursday night as they travel the 3 blocks down the street to Piedmont Baptist College.
