Salem Falls to Guilford in Close Battle

Greensboro, NC- The Salem College Volleyball Team traveled down Interstate 40 East to play the Guilford College Quakers in a non-conference volleyball match Saturday morning. The Spirits started the first game playing tough, tying the score at 12-12. Guilford then scored 9 straight points to pull away and win the first game 18-30. In game 2, Salem played even tougher, leading the game late 25-22. Guilford scored 6 straight points and won the game 27-30. In game 3, Guilford jumped a 5-0 lead and then held on to defeat the Spirits (1-9) by the score of 25-30.

Christine Tillman (FY, King, NC) led the Spirits with 3 blocks and 15 digs. Katie Lineberger (Jr., Maiden, NC) had 2 blocks, 3 aces and 12 digs. Whitney Sorenson (Jr., Glendale, AZ), Tani Hatch (FY, Salt Lake City, UT) and Alyssa Alcos (FY, Jacksonville, FL) had 10 digs apiece. Guilford (5-10) was led by Haley Ortmann with 20 kills and 10 digs.

“Alyssa Alcos played exceptionally well on defense,” stated Head Volleyball Coach Amanda Ziemba. “Sydney Sweet set very well for us. Overall, the team played well.”
