Salem Athletic Department Celebrates End of Year at Awards Banquet

Winston-Salem, NC-The Salem College Athletic Department celebrated the 2011-2012 athletic year last night in Bryant Hall. Director of Athletics, Melissa Barrett, presided over the festivities. Salem Academy and College President Dr. Susan Pauly and Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs and Dean of the College Susan Calovini were special guest speakers.

Stephanie Hubbard (Sanford, NC) was honored as the Anne Woodward Student-Athlete of the Year for her performance on the soccer field. She also became the first ever student-athlete from Salem to be honored as an all-south region team member.

Amy Allison (Geneva, OH) was honored with the Nann Tilley Service Award for her participation in tennis and soccer. Samantha Hubbard (Sanford, NC) was selected as the Jess Byrd Scholar-Athlete winner for her four years on the soccer field. Angela Reavis (Boonville, NC), a tennis player, earned the Scholar Athlete of the Year for having the highest grade point average of all Salem student-athletes. Allison, Samantha Hubbard, and Lauren Wisen (Madison, OH) were honored as four-year letter winners.

All 7 teams honored 2 student-athletes with team awards. The following were team award winners:
Basketball:Offensive Award-Karoline Summerville (Charlotte, NC), Defensive Award-Amber Miller (Mebane, NC)

Cross Country:
Most Valuable Runner-Cristi Magracia (Lemon Grove, CA), Most Improved Runner-Evelyn Bradley (Powder Springs, GA)
Soccer:Most Versatile Player-MacKenzie Schmidt (Columbus, OH), Most Dedicated Player-Jessi Carter (Tampa, FL)
Softball:Offensive Player of the Year-Kristi Morton (Trussville, AL), Defensive Player of the Year-Abby Settles (Reidsville, NC)
Tennis:Coach's Award-Carly Neisler (Cramerton, NC), Most Improved Player-Kerri Morgan (Walnut Cove, NC)
Track & Field:Team Award-Natali Olveda (Salinas, CA), Most Improved Runner-Tali Schroeder (Lexington, VA)
Volleyball:Team Before Self-Brittany Miller (Hays, NC), Above the Net-Randi Roppolo (Weeki Wachee, FL)
