WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Salem volleyball head coach Bouaketh Chanthavisouk, who enters her second year at the helm of the program, released the Spirits' 2020 schedule on Monday, April 6.

Chanthavisouk guided the Spirits to a 14-14 mark in 2019, which culminated in the first round of the USA South Conference Tournament against Greensboro. Salem posted a 10-6 record in league action and wrapped up the season with a fourth-place finish in the East Division standings.

The Spirits reached 10 league wins after putting together a three-match winning streak in late October versus USA South Conference foes N.C. Wesleyan, Greensboro and Pfeiffer. It allowed the squad to tie the 2018 unit for most conference wins in program history and mark the first time Salem has posted 10 league victories in back-to-back seasons.

The 2020 slate will begin on Sept. 5 in Rocky Mount, N.C., when Salem takes the court against Piedmont International. The two-match stint at N.C. Wesleyan will be followed by the home opener versus Guilford on Wednesday, Sept. 9 at 7 p.m.

The Spirits will take to the road for the next six matches, facing the combination of William Peace, Pfeiffer, Brevard and Mary Baldwin before returning to Varsity Gym on Tuesday, Sept. 29 to square off against Emory & Henry at 7 p.m. Salem completes the first month of action the following evening with a 7 p.m. contest versus USA South Conference foe Methodist.

Salem begins October play with a tri-match against N.C. Wesleyan (12 p.m.) and Greensboro (4 p.m.) on Saturday, Oct. 3, marking the first of eight home matches for the Spirits over the course of the month. Five of the home matches will take place between Oct. 8 and Oct. 21 as Salem hosts Meredith (Oct. 8), Pfeiffer (Oct. 14), Mary Baldwin (Oct. 17), William Peace (Oct. 17) and Methodist (Oct. 21) in that stretch.

The Spirits make a return trip to Rocky Mount, N.C., to square off with USA South rivals N.C. Wesleyan and Greensboro on Saturday, Oct. 24. Salem will play its final regular season home match of the season on Tuesday, Oct. 27 against Averett before trekking to Raleigh, N.C., on Oct. 30 to play Meredith.

The USA South Conference Tournament is set to begin on Tuesday, Nov. 3.
