WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Salem cross country team begins the 2019 season on Saturday, September 7, when the Spirits trek to Salisbury, N.C., to take part in the Fleet Feet XC Invitational hosted by Catawba.

The 5k race, which begins at 9:15 a.m., will take place at the Salisbury Community Park. The course is 99 percent grass and dirt trails with minimal asphalt at a crossing area and served as the site of the 2014 South Atlantic Conference Championships.

Salem is one of 40 teams taking part in the race, including USA South members Averett, Meredith, Methodist, N.C. Wesleyan and Pfeiffer. The Spirits head into the 2019 season picked 12th in the USA South preseason poll, conducted of the league's head coaches.
