Salem Lacrosse Opens USA South Action at Greensboro on Tuesday

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Salem lacrosse team, competing in its third game in a five-day stretch, begins USA South Conference action on Tuesday, March 3 at Greensboro. The two teams will collide on Pride Field at 3:30 p.m.

The Spirits (1-2) head into the clash looking to halt a two-game losing streak, which includes setbacks to Southern Virginia (19-1) and Sweet Briar (11-9) over the weekend. Salem is also in search of its first win in three meetings against The Pride, after falling to Greensboro in 2018 (21-3) and 2019 (15-9).

Sophomore Teia Horton, who is the one of seven Spirits with multiple goals on the season, leads the offensive unit with eight. Hope Morrison and Collette Vladimery have accounted for four goals each for the Spirits, while the trio of Danielle Allen, Sara Jimenez and Anzley Kemmerer are responsible for three goals apiece. Cara James rounds out multi-goal scorers for Salem with two.

Hannah Ostlund (1-2) leads Salem in net with 27 saves (.375 save percentage), logging 183:28 minutes in goal.

Greensboro heads into its third game of the season with a 1-1 mark, winning its first game of the season (17-5) at Randolph on Saturday. Madison Blashaw is the primary source of offense for The Pride with a team-best 11 goals on 18 shots on goal. Alexis Murriel is second on the unit with seven goals, while Elizabeth Carr and Logan Schnabl have tallied three goals apiece.

Stephanie Carr has started both games in goal for Greensboro, making 13 saves (.351 save percentage) in 120 minutes of action.

HORTON AND JAMES LEAD OFFENSE VERSUS SWEET BRIAR (March 1): The Spirits (1-2) were led offensively by the trio of Horton (three goals), James (two) and Kemmerer (two). James made her presence felt on both ends of the field for Salem, recording 12 ground balls and nine caused turnovers, while Morrison contributed six ground balls and an assist.

Ostlund finished with nine saves for Salem, including five in the second half.

Kaylah Bailey netted a game-high five goals and was one of two Sweet Briar players with at least one assist as the Vixens picked up their first win in the all-time series with Salem, 11-9, on Sunday, March 1 at Varsity Field in Winston-Salem, N.C.

Bailey, who attempted seven shots on goal for Sweet Briar (1-4), was also active on defense with five ground balls and four caused turnovers. Joining her with multi-goal performances was K. Mullins (three) and Victoria Lawson, who closed with two. The Vixens were led in goal by Sydney Campbell, who moved to 1-2 on the season after converting seven saves, including four in the opening half.
