Jimenez Nets Two Goals In USA South Opener At Greensboro

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Greensboro's Madison Blashaw netted a game-high nine goals while teammates Morgan Montgomery and Alexis Murriel added five apiece to help lead The Pride to a 22-6 victory in the USA South Conference opener for both teams.

Salem (1-3, 0-1 USA South) was led offensively by first year Sara Jimenez, who netted two goals on two shots on goal. Collette Vladimery also made an impact for the Spirits with four ground balls and a goal, while teammate Cara James added three ground balls and a goal.

Salem's Hannah Ostlund (1-3) ended the clash with 13 saves and her counterpart, Stephanie Carr (2-1), stopped one shot on the afternoon.

Montgomery and Blashaw provided Greensboro (2-1, 1-0 USA South) with a 2-0 lead in the first seven minutes of the game, but a James goal at the 22:23 mark cut the lead in half. The Pride retaliated with four straight goals, three of which came from Murriel, to assume the 6-1 advantage.

Consecutive goals from Vladimery and Jimenez cut the Greensboro lead in half, 6-3, with 9:38 left in the opening half. Blashaw and The Pride offense responded with five unanswered, including four from Blashaw, to forge in front 10-3.

Teia Horton contributed a goal for the Spirits at the 3:26 mark and Jimenez added her second of the afternoon with 55 seconds remaining in the half to make for a 14-5 Greensboro lead at the intermission.

Greensboro's offense carried over the momentum established in the opening frame in the second, netting five goals in the first 17:16, to move in front 19-5. Salem's lone goal of the second came off the stick of first year Anzley Kemmerer, who drove home a shot with 10 minutes left.

The Pride tallied the final three goals of the contest, making for the 16-point difference.
