WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – For the second time in as many meets, Salem junior swimmer Omega Pinnix rewrote the program's record book, this time topping a 14-year-old mark in the 200 backstroke, while teammate Daja Jones etched her name in annals of history with a record in the 200 butterfly.

Pinnix, who set the mark in the 100 backstroke in the meet at UNC Pembroke, established a new mark in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:24.71. That broke the previous record of 2:29.25, which was set by Rachel Fichthorn on February 13, 2009 at the ODAC / Atlantic States Championships.

Jones' mark in the 200 butterfly, which she finished in a time of 4:59.44, came as she was the first Salem competitor to take part in the event.

Salem competed against William Peace in the meet, after Warren Wilson was forced to withdraw due to positive COVID-19 tests, suffered a 135-53 setback in the team competition.

However, Pinnix brought home two of Salem's three first-place finishes, which came in the aforementioned 200 backstroke, along with the 1000 freestyle (12:54.06). Jones notched the other first-place performance in the 200 butterfly.

Jones also grabbed a pair of third-place outings in the 100 breaststroke (1:36.58) and the 500 freestyle (10:25.18).

Madison Fullerton wrapped up a solid outing for the Spirits by placing second in the 200 breaststroke (4:22.14) and third in the 50 freestyle (41.87).

Sara Vargas, like Jones, took part in three events for the Salem, coming away with a second and two third-place outings along the way. Her second-place finish came in the 200 individual medley, posting a time of 4:08.63, while her third-place finishes came in the 100 freestyle (1:23.98) and the 100 butterfly (1:59.64).
