ATLANTA –
The Salem swim team completed its final meet of the 2023-24 season in Atlanta, Ga., competing in four events along the way.

First-year Marabeth Huffman led the way for the Spirits, notching a personal-best record in the 100 freestyle event as she tapped the wall in 1:03.97. That was 3.87 seconds faster than Huffman's previous career-best performance in the event, which came at the Hollins Dual, where she posted a time of 1:07.24.

Huffman also raced in the 100 backstroke, coming through with a time of 1:15.38, which marked her second sub-1:16 time of the season, which included a time of 1:14.30 a week ago at the Independent South Swim Conference Championship in Kingsport, Tenn.

Huffman, who competed in the 50 freestyle for the fifth time this season, touched the wall in 28.58 at the time trial. That marked her third-best mark of the season after a 28.24 at the Independent South Swim Conference Championship and a 28.88 time in the William Peace Invitational, which took place on November 17, 2023.

Madison Fullerton, who opened the meet with a fifth-place finish in the 500 freestyle (8:29.15) on Friday evening, also raced in three events. Fullerton established a personal-best in the 100 backstroke on Saturday, taking 4.29 seconds off her previous personal best mark (1:34.62), which came in the Columbia / Warren Wilson Dual.

Fullerton's second appearance in the 100 freestyle this season, which came on Saturday, resulted in a personal-best time of 1:21.08. She also participated in the event at the Salem Fast Chance Meet, which resulted in a time of 1:24.42.

Like her teammates, Fullerton was also in the 50 freestyle time trial, where she delivered a personal-best mark of 36.97. That was 1.14 seconds quicker than her previous time of 38.11, which came in a meet that featured Greensboro, Guilford and Randolph on January 13, 2014.

Junior Omega Pinnix took part in three events at Emory on Saturday afternoon. Pinnix posted a time of 1:00.52 in the 100 backstroke, which she competed in for just the third time in 2023-24. She also enjoyed her second sub-2:15.00 time in the 200 backstroke with a mark of 2:14.95.
