  • Williams Hired as New Cross Country and Track & Field Coach

    Director of Athletics Melissa Barrett announced the appointment of Jamie Williams as the head coach of the Salem College Cross Country and Track & Field teams.
  • Cross country finishes in 24th at South/Southeast Region Championship

    The Salem College cross country team finished in 24th at the NCAA South/Southeast Region Championship hosted by Rhodes College. Stephanie Mendez (Atlanta, GA) was the top runner for the Spirits and finished the 6K course in 112th place (26:13). Salem finished their season by avenging a Great South Championship loss against Spelman College, who finished in 25th.
  • Cross country earns several Great South postseason honors

    The Salem College cross country team was well represented in the Great South Athletic Conference postseason awards given out today at the GSAC Championships hosted by Maryville College. Stephanie Mendez (Atlanta, GA) was selected to the GSAC All-Conference team for the second year in a row. Salem finished in third in the GSAC Championships as a team.
  • Cross country has third place finish at Great South Championship meet

    The Salem College cross country team finished in third place at the Great South Athletic Conference Championships today in Tennessee. Huntingdon took first place in the meet with 33 points followed by Spelman with 96 points. The Spirits scored 122 points, and Stephanie Mendez (Atlanta, GA) was the top Salem runner with a 7th place finish in the 6K race (28:39).
  • Stephanie Mendez selected as Great South Runner of the Week

    Sophomore Stephanie Mendez of Salem College is the Runner of the Week for women’s cross country. Mendez led Salem to a fifth place finish at the North Carolina Collegiate Championships. She ran a team season-best time of 27:30 over the 6K course and finished 18th overall.
  • Cross country finishes in fifth at NC Collegiate Championships

    The Salem College cross country team finished in 5th out of 11 teams at the North Carolina Collegiate Championships 6K hosted by Guilford College. Four of the runners from Salem finished in their personal 6K record. Stephanie Mendez (Atlanta, GA) ran a Salem season best 6K (27:30) and finished in 18th place. Salem was the fourth DIII program in the race out of nine teams.

    "Natali is the first one from her family to attend a four-year college. She has finished second for Salem in every race this season and has made a huge impact on the team. She works extremely hard and is very passionate about running. She also has a great positive attitude and is a great student. I'm looking forward to seeing what she can do in Great South Championships."
  • Cross Country runs at Paul Short Invite in Pennsylvania

    The Salem College cross country team competed today in the Paul Short Invitational hosted by Lehigh University. Salem ran in the college women white 6K race and finished in 35th out of 36 of the top teams in area. Stephanie Mendez (Atlanta, GA) was the top finisher for the Spirits in the race. Mendez finished in 189th place in a time of 28:17.
  • Cross Country finishes in 10th at William Wilson/Citadel Invitational

    The Salem College cross country team finished in 10th place for NCAA Division II and Division III schools at the William Wilson/Citadel Invitational today. The 5k meet was run on a very hot course with temperatures in the mid-nineties. Julie Piernikowski (Potomac, MD) was the top finisher for Salem coming in 27th place in a time of 21:57.
  • Cross Country breaks records at the Asics/Winthrop CC Invitational

    The Salem College cross country team set three personal records and two season best runs in the Asics/Winthrop Invitational today. The Spirits ran against mainly NCAA Division I and Division II competition in the meet. Julie Piernikowski (Potomac, MD) finished in 107th overall and first for the Spirits in the five-kilometer meet with a time of 22:07.
  • Cross Country finishes in fifth at Washington and Lee Invite

    The Salem College cross country team finished in 5th place out of nine teams at the Washington and Lee Invitational today. The Spirits ran on a tough course in their first six kilometer (6K) race of the season. Julie Piernikowski (Potomac, MD) finished first for Salem and 24th overall in a time of 27:51.
  • Piernikowski breaks her personal record for cross country at USC Upstate

    Spartanburg, SC-The Salem College cross country team finished in 20th out of 22 teams at the USC Upstate Eye Opener Invitational today. The Spirits defeated Great South conference foe Piedmont in the meet. Julie Piernikowski (Potomac, MD) finished in 94th overall in the 5k race with a personal record of 21:51.

    Akaya McElveen (New Haven, CT; Warren F. Kaynor Technical/Wilbur Cross High School) has committed to running cross country and track & field at Salem, adding some needed depth to both teams.
