  • Hubbard Becomes First Salem Athlete to Receive All-South Region Honors

    Stephanie Hubbard (Sanford, NC) became the first student-athlete from Salem to ever receive All-South Region Honors for her play this season with the soccer team. She was selected to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) NCAA Division III South Atlantic Third-Team. The NSCAA South Atlantic Region stretches from New Jersey to Mississippi.
  • Soccer Earns 2011 NSCAA Team Academic Award

    The Salem College soccer team was awarded the 2011 Team Academic Award by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). To receive this honor, a soccer team must have above a 3.0 cumulative grade point average for an entire school year (2010-2011).
  • Soccer loses 4-3 heartbreaker in GSAC Semifinals

    The Salem College soccer team lost a heartbreaking semifinal match against Piedmont College 4-3. The Spirits went ahead twice in the first-half by 2 goals, but they could not hold on for the win. They finish the season with an 11-5-2 record, the third straight year the program has eclipsed the 10 win mark.

    Gearing up for the Great South Athletic Conference women's soccer tournament, the GSAC is pleased to announce this year's women's soccer conference award winners. The winners will be honored during the tournament in LaGrange this weekend.
  • Soccer wins to advance to Great South Semifinals

    The Salem College soccer team defeated Huntingdon College today 1-0 to advance to the Great South Athletic Conference semifinals on Friday. Stephanie Hubbard (Sanford, NC) scored in the 20th minute to secure the win. Salem improves to 11-4-2 overall with the victory.
  • Soccer defeats Spelman on senior night for 10th win of the season

    The Salem College soccer team earned their 10th win of the season in a 2-1 victory against Spelman College. The Spirits have now reached at least 10 wins for 3 straight seasons. Salem celebrated their 3 senior captains in the win. They improve to 10-4-2 with the win, and finish their Great South play with a 5-2-1 conference record.
  • Trakas selected as Great South Soccer Player of the Week

    Closing out the final week of competition before conference championships, the Great South Athletic Conference announces the final Player of the Week awards for the fall season. Jessie Jakes from Covenant College for volleyball, Anna Trakas of Salem College for women's soccer, Sidney Smith of Piedmont College for men's soccer and Holli Abernathy of Piedmont College for women's cross country rounds out this week's award winners.

    The Salem College Spirits wrapped up a Georgia road trip with a 4-1 conference win at Agnes Scott. The win secures Salem as the #3 seed in the upcoming Great South Athletic Conference Tournament (GSAC). Amanda Orsino (Sauquoit, NY) scored two goals and added an assist in the victory. The Spirits improve to 9-4-2 overall and to 4-2-1 in the GSAC.
  • Soccer uses strong first half to defeat LaGrange on road

    The Salem College soccer team scored early and often to earn an important Great South match tonight 3-0. Mackenzie Schmidt (Columbus, OH) scored two goals and had an assist all in the first half in the victory. Salem improves to 8-4-2 overall and to 3-2-1 in the Great South.

    The Salem College soccer team snapped Covenant’s 5 game win streak with a 1-1 draw. Anna Trakas (Tryon, NC) scored the goal for the Spirits in the second-half. Salem’s record is now 7-4-2, while Covenant is 6-6-2.
  • Soccer cruises to 7-0 win at Peace

    The Salem College soccer team cruised to a 7-0 road non-conference win at Peace today. The Spirits went their second straight game without giving up a shot. Anna Trakas (Tryon, NC) had two goals for Salem. The Spirits improve to 7-3-1 on the season.
  • Soccer improves record to 6-3-1 with win against Wesleyan

    It took a while, but the Salem College soccer team was able to open up Wesleyan College's defense for a 5-0 conference win. It took Salem 27 shots to tally a goal when Sam Hubbard (Sanford, NC) opened up the scoring for the Spirits. Salem improves to 2-1 in the Great South and to 6-3-1 on the season.
  • Soccer takes Maryville to the wire before losing in overtime

    The Salem College soccer team almost pulled off one of the biggest victories in Great South Athletic Conference history by taking Maryville College to overtime at Maryville yesterday. Jordan Chase scored the winning goal for Maryville in the second minute of overtime to provide the 1-0 win for the Scots. Salem falls to 5-3-1 overall and 1-1 in the Great South, while Maryville improves to 2-0 in the GSAC and 5-2-2 overall.
  • Soccer battles to a draw with Ferrum

    The Salem College soccer team battled to a scoreless tie with Ferrum College today in a game that saw 2 overtimes. Salem snapped a 4-game win streak that Ferrum brought into the game. Taylor Barcom (Anchorage, AK) recorded a shutout for the Spirits with 9 saves. Salem moves to 5-2-1 on the season, and Ferrum moves to 4-3-1.

    The Salem College soccer team survived the long ride to Alabama to defeat Huntingdon College 1-0 in a Great South Athletic Conference match. Stephanie Hubbard (Sanford, NC) scored on a corner kick by Anna Trakas (Tryon, NC) midway through the fast half, and Salem controlled the play for the entire remainder of the match. The Spirits move to 4-1 overall and to 1-0 in the Great South, while Huntingdon falls to 2-2-1.
  • Soccer uses 5 first half goals to defeat Hollins

    The Salem College soccer team used five first-half goals to cruise to a 6-1 victory against Hollins University at home. Sawyer Ferguson (Billings, MT) scored 2 goals in the first 12 minutes to pace Salem to their third victory in a row. Salem improves to 3-1 overall, and Hollins drops to 1-3.

    The Salem College soccer team showed team resilience for the second game in a row to defeat Greensboro College 2-1. Nataly Mojica (Dallas, TX) scored the game-winning goal for the Spirits in the 85th minute to give Salem a win in their first home match of the year. The Spirits improve to 2-1 overall, while Greensboro drops to 2-1 on the season.
  • Soccer bounces back with victory over Guilford

    The Salem College soccer team defeated Guilford College 3-1 in a non-conference match at the Meredith College Classic. After falling down 1-0, Salem had three different players score to secure the victory. The Spirits improve to 1-1, while Guilford falls to 2-1.
  • Soccer team picked to finish third in Great South Preseason Poll

    Salem occupies the third spot after finishing in second place during the regular season last year. The Spirits only had one conference loss last season which came at the hands of eventual champion Maryville. Stephanie Hubbard, Sabrina Thiel and Anna Trakas will be back on the field for Salem. As a team, the Spirits led the conference in goals with 74 throughout the season.
